The basic medical sciences program at ILKKM Sg Buloh is a combination of four subunits; anatomy unit, basic medical science unit, behaviour science unit & communication science unit. The program provides the opportunity to learn and understand the interrelationship between the basic and clinical medical sciences and to explore one or more of the disciplines in depth. These disciplines are concerned with the study of the healthy human body. The knowledge of these foundational sciences is essential for allied health practice. Therefore, it is critical that allied health professional students be well-grounded in these basic sciences for them to have an in-depth understanding of the structure and function of the healthy human body. Occupational Therapy is a healthcare professional work with individuals, families, and health related organisations to assist them to overcome the limitations and restrictions that are caused by illness, psychological or emotional difficulties, developmental delay or the effects of aging. Occupational therapist will enhance people’s ability to engage in the occupations and empowering people to take part in everyday life.

Students then develop and apply this knowledge to the assessment and intervention processes used by occupational therapists when working with clients and client groups. The Fieldwork education in various practice settings will provide further opportunities to apply knowledge, skills and developing an appreciation of occupational therapy related health care and service delivery. 

PROGRAM OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPHY

PROGRAM OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

Along with advancements in environmental health technology, this course is offered to fulfil the needs for skilled and trained environmental technologist to assist in the operation, management and enforcement of environmental health. Environmental Health Science Technologist plays a major role as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

They involve primarily in assisting environmental health officers to evaluate and control environmental hazards, maintaining a safe supply of food and drinking water, improving methods for treatment and disposal of waste and researching the environmental impact to overall human health. They also involved in assisting the enforcement of environmental health laws and regulations in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment to live in.

ILKKM Sungai Buloh’s Diploma in Environmental Health is an exciting programme that observes and studies human activity affecting the quality of human life. Students learn to make scientific observations based on empirical evidence and logical deductions, and to plan their own answers and solutions to current environmental problems. Core topics include health issues; the body’s reaction to environmental pollutants; physical, chemical and biological agents of environmental contamination; how pollutants are released towards the environment in solid, liquid and gaseous forms; types of hazardous wastes; susceptible populations; risk analysis and the scientific basis for decision-making, and emerging global environmental health issues.

At the end of the course, they will equip with a fundamental knowledge of the relevant sciences and their auxiliary services such as legal barriers and obligations, codes of practice and ethics, and relevant communication skills.

Medical Imaging is concerned with diagnostic procedures, health screening and research, using sophisticated and ever-evolving technology of equipments, such as general radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasonography. They produce medical images of the human body, to aid diagnosis and treatment planning. Diagnostic radiographers are important players of the healthcare team, to deliver a sensitive and patient-centred service using these specialised equipment. A more specialised radiographers may work in different modalities such as fluoroscopy, mammography, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology. The prospect of medical imaging not only revolves in the clinical area, but expands to research and administration
